News: 3 days agoCowing (concussion) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Packers, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Spin: Cowing sustained a concussion in the 49ers' Week 11 loss to the Seahawks and was unable to practice both Thursday and Friday, so it's no surprise that he won't suit up Sunday. The rookie wideout from Arizona has seen minimal offensive work through nine appearances this season, catching two of his three targets for 50 yards. Expect Ronnie Bell to serve as San Francisco's top punt returner with Cowing sidelined in Week 12.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Drafted 135th overall this year by the 49ers, Cowing fits the Shanahan "type" to a T. He's a diminutive (5-foot-8 and 168 pounds) speedster who excels as a catch-and-run target in space. Best deployed via the slot, Cowing is unlikely to garner much (if any) volume in 2024, as he's seemingly buried on the depth chart and figures to work behind first-round selection Ricky Pearsall. Given the offense he's a part of, however, he's worth keeping tabs on during the season and could provide late-round value in dynasty formats.
