Football recruiting intel: Latest buzz on QB flips and five-star visits

Cal QB commit Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has Oregon and Georgia trying to flip his commitment. Elite 11

Five-star quarterbacks Bryce Underwood and Julian Lewis produced some of the biggest fireworks of the 2025 cycle within hours of each other on Thursday, and the late-cycle recruiting drama should continue Saturday as top prospects flock to campuses across the country with 11 days remaining before the early signing period.

The ripples of Lewis' commitment to Colorado and Underwood's seismic flip to Michigan will continue as the Buffaloes and Wolverines seek to capitalize on their late-November momentum. Elsewhere, Auburn, Texas, Florida and Cal are among those set to host key visitors in Week 13 as some of the nation's top uncommitted prospects and flip targets move toward decisions, while five-star defensive end Jahkeem Stewart is headed back to Oregon on Saturday as the nation's No. 11 overall prospect reaches the end of his recruitment.

With just two Saturdays left before the three-day early signing period opens on Dec. 4, here's what's happening on the recruiting trail this weekend:

What's next for Colorado and Michigan?

The Wolverines and Buffaloes each woke up Thursday morning without a quarterback pledge in their 2025 class. By day's end, the programs held commitments from the cycle's top two quarterbacks -- and its top two overall prospects. The moves could set both programs up for a surge to the finish of the recruiting cycle.

After securing Underwood's flip, Michigan has turned its attention to the defensive line, offering Stewart and fellow five-star defensive lineman Isaiah Gibson within 24 hours of Underwood's commitment. Sources told ESPN that Stewart was expected to speak with Wolverines coach Sherrone Moore Friday about scheduling a visit to Michigan sometime over the next two weeks. Griffin, ESPN's No. 6 overall prospect, has been committed to Georgia since Oct. 18, and ESPN sources expect him to be difficult to flip.

The Wolverines also remain a top contender for four-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng (No. 80 in the ESPN 300), who canceled his visit to Texas in Week 13 following recent trips to Michigan and Colorado. Sources also expect Michigan to pursue five-star Alabama offensive tackle pledge Ty Haywood (No. 18 in the ESPN 300) and four-star LSU wide receiver commit Derek Meadows (No. 205) in the coming weeks.

At Colorado, Lewis' commitment is the exact boost Deion Sanders & Co. needed with the Buffaloes working toward a strong finish in the 2025 cycle.

"It made a big impact, not going to lie," four-star Ohio State pledge London Merritt said.

Merritt, ESPN's No. 5 edge rusher, has been committed to Ohio State since March, and he'll visit Columbus when the Buckeyes host Michigan in Week 14. But Colorado has impressed Merritt across multiple visits this fall, and the Buffaloes enter the final days of the cycle with a chance to flip ESPN's No. 52 overall prospect.

Colorado is targeting two more top-100 prospects between Owusu-Boateng and four-star Alabama offensive line pledge Michael Carroll (No. 74 in the ESPN 300), who visited the Buffaloes last weekend. Colorado is also heavily in the mix to sign four-star offensive tackle Carde Smith (No. 293) following his decommitment from USC earlier this week, and to flip three-star Oklahoma State defensive end pledge Alexander McPherson.

Biggest visits this weekend

Five-star DT Justus Terry (No. 7 in the ESPN 300): Terry regained his status as the nation's top uncommitted prospect upon Lewis' commitment to Colorado. On Saturday, he'll visit Auburn for the first time in more than a year as the Tigers work to sway ESPN's No. 2 defensive tackle.

Terry has been committed to Georgia and USC at different times in his recruitment, and sources around his recruitment continue to feel that the Bulldogs remain the heavy favorites to ultimately land his signature on Dec. 4. But Terry's decision to return to Auburn is notable. As the Tigers look to add a defensive tackle pledge in the final days before the early signing period, there's no bigger target than Terry, and Auburn will get its shot with the 6-foot-5, 270-pound defender when it hosts Texas A&M on Saturday.

Five-star OT Michael Fasusi (No. 9 in the ESPN 300): ESPN's No. 2 offensive tackle has been the top prospect in Oklahoma's 2025 class since August. However, buzz remains around a potential flip as the blocker from Lewisville, Texas, prepares to close the cycle with visits to a pair of Texas campuses over the final two weekends of the regular season.

Fasusi will be at Texas on Saturday when the Longhorns host Kentucky, returning to campus for the first time since his official visit with the program in June, and he's expected to follow that with a trip to Texas A&M in Week 14. While Fasusi has publicly affirmed his commitment to Oklahoma throughout the fall, the door remains open for a late-cycle switch as Fasusi's trips buck against Brent Venables' stated policy on committed recruits visiting other schools, which the Sooners' third-year coach reiterated this week.

"If you're visiting other schools in the present moment, you're not committed," Venables said in a news conference on Tuesday.

Four-star WR Jaime Ffrench (No. 25 in the ESPN 300): Seven days after taking an official visit to Florida, the Longhorns' second-ranked commit will return to Texas in Week 13, a key development as Steve Sarkisian & Co. seek to hold on to Ffrench's pledge.

Ffrench, the nation's No. 3 wide receiver, has been one of the top members of the Longhorns' 2025 class since his August commitment. However, sources around the Gators have grown increasingly optimistic about a potential flip after Florida got Ffrench on campus in Week 12 and secured a commitment last weekend from four-star quarterback Tramell Jones, French's high school teammate. Ffrench's decision to return to Texas this weekend -- his third visit this fall -- should calm nerves around the Longhorns.

Four-star DE Javion Hilson (No. 77 in the ESPN 300): Initially expected to visit Florida on Saturday, Hilson traveled to Michigan instead and will be on hand for the Wolverines' Week 13 game against Northwestern.

Texas, Florida, Texas A&M, Pitt and Syracuse all remain in the mix for ESPN's No. 11 defensive end. But Hilson's late-cycle visit to Michigan is significant as the Wolverines turn up the heat on the recruiting trail in the wake of Underwood's flip. Sherrone Moore wants to add top defensive end before the early signing period and he'll have one on campus Saturday.

Four-star QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (No. 17 pocket passer): Oregon and Georgia are working hard to flip the Cal commit, making Sagapolutele's return visit to the Bears this weekend a critical one for Justin Wilcox & Co.

A late riser in the 2025 cycle, Sagapolutele initially picked Cal over Oregon State, Boise State and Utah State in July. But Oregon has been pursuing Sagapolutele in full force since September, hosting Hawaii's No. 1 overall prospect on Oct. 26, and Sagapolutele will travel to Georgia next weekend after initially planning to visit the Bulldogs on Nov. 16. The Ducks are the favorites if Sagapolutele ultimately pulls his pledge from Cal, but the Bears will get at least one more shot with their top commit Saturday as they host Stanford.

"I haven't really made a decision yet," Sagapolutele told ESPN. "Still love all the programs that are recruiting me. I want to see what Georgia has to offer; see how good it is over there and keep praying over my decision."

Jahkeem Stewart enters the final stretch

Stewart has seen all four of his finalists over the past month, visiting Oregon, Ohio State, LSU and USC, and Michigan could yet still enter the mix.

The former No. 1 prospect in the 2026 class is now in the final days of a rapid recruiting process that began when Stewart reclassified into the Class of 2025 on Oct. 5. What will Stewart be looking for as he returns to Oregon on Saturday and Ohio State next weekend before announcing his commitment on Dec. 4?

"It's not about what I need to see, it's what I need to feel," Stewart told ESPN. "I need to have some more conversations. I'm going up there to have business conversations and just enjoy my time. I know when I sign the papers there's going to be a switch I have to flip. It's going to be totally different in January when I'm on a campus somewhere."

Oregon and Ohio State made significant impressions on Stewart during his visits late last month. USC dazzled Stewart last weekend on his visit with the Trojans, which included stops at Marvel Studios and Fox Sports as well as meetings with prominent alumni.

"They have a lot of things planned out for me outside of football," Stewart said. "Somebody else would have committed on this spot with the type of things they showed me."

While Stewart is keeping his decision close to the vest, sources told ESPN that Oregon and LSU have emerged as front-runners. Yet with visits remaining at Oregon and Ohio State and Michigan potentially preparing to get involved, plenty of twists and turns might still remain in one of the most fascinating recruitments of the 2025 cycle.

"It'll be how I feel at the end of the day," Stewart said. "You can't describe a feeling. You can't force me to go where you want me to go. It's my decision at the end of the day."

Flip watch

OT Lamont Rogers, Missouri commit (No. 24 in the ESPN 300): The feeling among sources at Missouri and Texas A&M remains that it's a matter of when, not if, Rogers will flip to the Aggies. After skipping a visit to Missouri in Week 11, Rogers returned to Texas A&M for at least his second visit with the Aggies this fall, and Mike Elko's staff is working hard to pull Rogers to College Station.

WR Dallas Wilson, Oregon commit (No. 39 in the ESPN 300): The longtime Oregon pledge will return to Florida for a second straight weekend on Saturday as the Gators continue their efforts to flip Wilson. Sources around the recruitment of ESPN's No. 7 wide receiver prospect have maintained that Wilson's commitment to Dan Lanning and the Ducks would be difficult to shake, but Florida will get another chance to make its pitch this weekend, while Miami continues to keep tabs on Wilson, as well.

WR Quincy Porter, Ohio State commit (No. 65 in the ESPN 300): Porter recently visited Penn State and is another top-100 prospect on Florida's list in the final weeks of the cycle. Committed to Ohio State since June, Porter remains firm in his pledge to the Buckeyes, sources have told ESPN, but expect Penn State to continue battling for the pass catcher from New Jersey before the early signing period.

RB Byron Louis, Florida State commit (No. 196 in the ESPN 300): Like Wilson, Louis is set to visit Florida for a second consecutive weekend when the Gators host Ole Miss on Saturday. Louis, ESPN's No. 11 running back prospect, has been committed to Florida State since Sept. 21 but could soon join the list of seven Seminoles pledges who have left Mike Norvell's 2025 class since the start of the regular season.
